Opal Fossils
Opals are one of the few gemstones that can form fossils due to the fact that opals are form from silica and water not from cooling lava like other gemstones, which basically makes opal gemstone a sedimentary rock.
Fossilized opals are seeked out mostly by collectors as this fossil does not add much to the scientific world besides its beauty and uniqueness.
Opal fossils are usually sea shells and wood, but sometimes squid or benemites are found, called Pipe Opals. Pipe opals like "the Virgin Rainbow" are a wonderful to behold.
